A look at the Youth

A major challenge for the Muslim society as well as every other society

is the physiological problems confronting the youth that cause anxiety.

The youth are often found to exert great efforts in trying to dispel this apprehension.

However, this fretfulness cannot be chased away except through Deen and Akhlaq

(righteous character & behavioral attitudes) that ensure strengthening the society

and rectifying the affairs of this world and the Hereafter.

The youth of today are the men of tomorrow and they are the foundation of our future nation. If the youth are raised upon strong foundations of the Deen and Akhlaq then the future of this Ummah will be luminous, Insha'Allah. Hence, the texts of the Sharee'ah encourage nurturing them in the best way and guiding them to that which is good and beneficial. But, before we can make an effort to encourage righteous & praiseworthy attitudes, and set aright the corrupt and sinful traits, it is important for us to reflect upon our youth; their thoughts & actions…

A look at the Youth
A close look at the society shows that the youth may be classified under 3 broad categories;

Straightforward Righteous Youth,
who is firm in the implications of the Shahadatain (the two testimonies) and the pillars of the Deen. He is satisfied with his Eeman, and considers acquiring it a blessing and loosing it a big loss. He lives out the teachings of the religion and invites others to it with wisdom and manners laid down in the Book of Allah. He is mindful of his responsibility to Allah and the Muslim nation; he strives to change the evil in the way established by the Prophet and loves good for the general Muslims. He possesses Deen and Akhlaq and is therefore a person of refined character, religion, gentle, noble-minded, clean-hearted, steadfast & persistent. He is distant from Kufr (disbelief), apostasy, lowly character and evil mutual relations. Such a youth is the pride of the nation and a symbol of prosperity and Deen, who we hope, Insha'Allah Allah will, by His Grace, employ to rectify the Muslims .

Misguided & Deviated Youth, who is erroneous in his Aqeedah and careless in his behavior. He is proud, engulfed in vice and selfish in his conduct as if he was created for the worldly life alone and the world was created for him alone. He is stubborn, does not accept the truth from anybody and does not renounce falsehood. He does not care about his neglect of the Rights of Allah nor the rights of the people. He is confused and lacks wisdom, rationality and sound judgment in his thinking, behavior and all his actions. He is self-satiated with his own opinion as if truth flows upon his tongue, and in his opinion he is free from errors while others are prone to mistakes and slip-ups when they are against his opinion. He is far away from the straight path in the religion and the accepted norms of the society in his behavior. He has beautified his evil acts for himself, so he looks up at them as decent and good deeds, so he is from among those loosers whose deeds have misled them from the true goal of life and all the while they deemed those acts to be good deeds. This youth is an evil portent for himself and a calamity for the society, and he is driving his nation to the lowliest stage. He is a barrier between his nation and its respect and esteem - a deadly disease that is difficult to treat except if Allah Wills and Allah is All-Able over everything.

Confused Youth, who knows the truth and is content with it. He lives in a guarded society but the doors of evils have opened up unto him that heave doubts in his Aqeedah, flaw his conduct, corrupt his actions, and cause deviation from the known good practices… and trends of falsehood are many So he stands hesitant between the two differing paths. He does not know whether the truth lies in the prevailing ideologies or in the way of the pious predecessors. Therefore, he sometimes gives preference to one side and sometimes the other. These type of youth are found in abundance, who acquire little knowledge of the Islamic way of life but are well-informed of the secular knowledge that contradict the Deen either in reality or in their presumptions and thus, stand helpless between the two cultures. This type of youth is passive in his life and requires a captivating force to guide him to the truth and the path of goodness. They can be released from this confusion by focusing on Islamic education based upon the fundamental sources of the Qur'aan and the Sunnah at the hands of sincere devoted scholars. How easy would this task be if Allah brings out for him, one who would call him to the good with wisdom, knowledge and good intention!
