b) When is consumerism a problem for an individual?
Or in other words, where do we draw the line between beneficial consumption
and destructive wasteful consumption?
This definitely does not have a single, straightforward answer to fit every
situation, for, people are different and their economical/environmental
situations are different. However, should the following symptoms be found in an
individual, it is definitely time for behavioral change and thoughtful thinking
towards the true reason of our existence.
(1) A person develops an urge to consume just for the sake of consumption, like
the one who wishes to posses things that he does not truly need.
(2) A person seeks to fulfill a psychological need by gratuitous consumption,
like the one who buys things just to experience a high.
